Things are starting to pick up!
I’ve been banging away at learning front-end web development as part of my new job over the course of the last month. I’ve had to solve problems I never considered could exist, and come up with solutions I never would have thought of.
What does this mean for tsn? I’ve been learning all kinds of new things that I can bring back to my “real life” work, where in the past I’ve had to bring my “real life” experiences to work to solve problems. It’s an interesting change of pace to learn more at work than I do at home. It’s also the first time when I’ve been surrounded by so many people who know so much more than I do, and have access to them on a daily basis. It’s nice to finally be among company that are not peers or students, where new ideas can finally flow in my direction.
With that, the update:
My Spot page
The My Spot page is finally a responsive design! I’d been working on getting that to function for the past month or so, but it wasn’t until this weekend that I was finally able to do it.
Forum Reading is Ready!
The Board Index, Forums and Topics pages are also responsive, and I’ve finally gotten around to the nit-picky things about them that have been bothering me for the past several months.
Mobile Ready!
With the My Spot and the Forum pages in a responsive state, they can now be access from a mobile device (phone or tablet) and be used easier than ever! This is a first for tsn, since it started! Check out the screenshots below.
Next Steps
There’s still a long way to go, but things have really ramped up this week. The next page to tackle is the Create Post/Reply page, which will have some inadvertent effects on the Private Messaging page (they use the same Craft Message template), and there are some known issues with the Members List pagination that I am not sure of the cause.
However, once the main areas of the site are addressed, I can move on to the lesser used areas and feel good about releasing the new site on time…with a special announcement.
The planned release date is April 14th, to coincide with the anniversary of the first tsn release, and I feel pretty good about meeting that date.
